Here’s another lovely bird from my Ulwe adventures.
The Black-headed Munia, Lonchura atricapilla, interestingly, is the former national bird of Philippines. It’s also known as the Chestnut Munia. I’ve seen this bird in decent numbers in Ulwe and are quite striking from up close. They are shy too, why makes them just a little bit tough to shoot, given their size. This shot happened because there was a water-body between the bird and me, which probably gave it the confidence that I would get too close.
A Wiki tidbit: In the Philippines, it is known as mayang pula (red maya) to distinguish it from the predominantly brownish Tree Sparrow – which is also called maya.
