Malabar Grey Hornbill

Malabar Grey Hornbill

We spent the last day of our Ganeshgudi/Dandeli trip well.

An early morning drive to the Timber Depot ensured we saw the Malabar Pied Hornbill, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Yellow Footed Green Pigeon.

The Malabar Grey Hornbill is a medium sized Hornbill that is endemic to the Western Ghats.

Unlike other species of Hornbill, they lack the casque that is usually prominent.

The Malabar Grey Hornbill has a grey back, and a cinnamon vent. The long tail is blackish with a white tip, and the underparts are grey with white streaks. The long curved bill has no casque.

The light was poor, but I did manage a decent shot of this one.

The image has been cropped suitably.
