My maiden guided birding tour to Nandi Hills proved to be largely a damp squib.
We hadn’t accounted for the fact that it was a public holiday in the middle of a long weekend: which meant the area would be teeming with picnickers.
It was quite a nightmare for birding – screaming kids, noisy climbers, loud families.
Bopanna, my birding guide, knew the area well.
So he sneaked us into a quiet corner.
White Cheeked Barbets, Tickell’s Flycatcher, Puff Throated Babbler, Oriental White Eyes were amongst the few I did see.
This picture of the Puff Throated Babbler was taken with a Canon 5D Mark III – using a Canon 300mm F2.8 lens + 1.4x III TC.
The lens is great and merits a serious thought as regards purchase.
